Projection: need to automatically qualify

Delaware State’s season is built around a few modest high points and a long list of damaging results, which explains why the team’s only realistic route to the NCAA field runs through the conference tournament. The résumé includes a true road victory at Longwood and home wins over Delaware and Maryland Eastern Shore that show the team can close tight games, but those are overwhelmed by lopsided defeats on the road at Temple, Syracuse and Miami and troubling home setbacks to conference peers such as Coppin State, Norfolk State and Howard that undercut any at-large case. Remaining regular-season chances against North Carolina Central and South Carolina State at home and a trip to Maryland Eastern Shore are useful but unlikely to deliver the kind of neutral-site or quality road wins missing from the schedule. With the best wins modest and the worst losses severe, winning the Mid-Eastern AC tournament is the clearest path to the bracket.
