SIUE’s résumé looks like it will come down to the Ohio Valley’s automatic berth because the nonconference slate lacks a marquee win and the team was embarrassed at Wisconsin, while its best moments — road victories at Drake, Western Illinois and Southern Indiana and home wins over Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech — show it can grind out wins both away and at home. Close setbacks at Indiana State, Morehead State and Eastern Illinois along with a poor trip to Air Force have deprived the team of the kind of signature result that attracts at-large attention.
