Projection: likely out

Butler’s résumé features eye-catching moments, highlighted by neutral-site wins over South Carolina and Virginia and road triumphs at Seton Hall and Georgetown, but those high points are undercut by damaging defeats such as lopsided setbacks at Connecticut and Marquette, road losses at Villanova and Creighton, and a home loss to Providence. Blowout victories over overmatched nonconference opponents have padded the ledger but do little to erase the impact of ugly league losses. With the season ending on the road at DePaul there is a clear chance to add a resume-building away win, yet the absence of consistent success away from home and the abundance of bad results leave Butler on the wrong side of the bubble.
