Projection: need to automatically qualify

The projection that Cleveland State must secure the Horizon automatic bid is logical because the résumé contains a handful of respectable moments that nonetheless fall short of a marquee résumé boost: a neutral win over Radford and road victories at Wright State, Green Bay and Milwaukee plus a solid home win over Oakland show the team can win away in league play, but none of those results replace a true road upset of a high-major opponent. Those positive signs are outweighed by damaging, lopsided losses at Northwestern, Missouri and UAB and ugly road defeats at Kent and Robert Morris that will linger with the committee. With no signature nonconference victory to neutralize those bad losses, the conference tournament represents the clearest and most realistic path to the NCAA field.
