Evansville’s résumé has a handful of bright spots, most notably a neutral-site win over Oregon State and a few modest victories such as Ball State and a road triumph at Indiana State, but those moments are swamped by brutal setbacks on the road at Purdue, Notre Dame and Illinois State and by lopsided neutral-site losses to Akron and College of Charleston that will be remembered by committee members. The remainder of the Missouri Valley slate and the final stretch of the season, including trips to Drake and Northern Iowa plus matchups with Southern Illinois, Valparaiso, Belmont and Murray State, offer the Purple Aces meaningful chances to shore up their profile, yet many of those opportunities are away from home or against teams that already have the upper hand so the margin for error is thin. With so few quality road or neutral results and a résumé blemished by damaging defeats the clearest path to the NCAA is earning the league’s automatic berth rather than depending on an at-large case.
