Projection: need to automatically qualify
Kennesaw’s résumé is anchored by a handful of signature moments and undercut by a string of damaging setbacks which makes the Conference USA automatic berth the clearest route to the NCAA tournament. The Owls have proven they can beat quality foes with a statement road win at Western Kentucky, a decisive home victory over New Mexico State, a wild shootout at Florida Gulf Coast, and a respectable showing against Alabama at a neutral site. Those highs are offset by ugly losses such as the defeat at Delaware, the heavy home loss to South Florida and other road reverses at places like Liberty that undermine at-large credibility. With road tests at Missouri State and New Mexico State and more winnable dates remaining against Louisiana Tech, Delaware and UTEP there are clear chances to repair the resume, but until those results arrive the committee will see too much inconsistency away from home to hand an at-large invitation.
