Projection: likely out

George Mason sits on the wrong side of the bubble because a handful of signature wins are undermined by an ugly pattern of losses away from home and a rough finish to the regular season. Neutral nonconference wins over Ohio and Florida Atlantic and league scalps of VCU and St Louis plus road victories at Loyola‑Chicago and at St Bonaventure show they can beat credible opponents, but those highs are offset by road defeats at Richmond, at George Washington, at Dayton and at St Joseph's and by a late loss to St Bonaventure that speaks to inconsistency down the stretch. Committees will value the quality of the handful of marquee wins, yet they will be equally turned off by when and where the bad results occurred. The clearest avenue to change the picture is a run through the conference tournament that includes another win over one of the better league opponents they have already beaten.
