Projection: likely out

George Mason looks the way it does because its résumé is a mix of encouraging road flashes and a soft body of work punctuated by damaging setbacks. The best moments — a home win over VCU and road victories at Loyola-Chicago and at St Bonaventure — prove the team can win away from home and beat respectable opponents, but those wins are offset by ugly losses at Virginia Tech, at George Washington, at Rhode Island and at Richmond and by an inexplicable defeat to Duquesne that dull the shine of the good wins. Most of the nonconference slate produced easy victories rather than marquee résumé builders, and with home dates against Dayton, St Bonaventure and Saint Louis plus road tests at Saint Joseph's and at VCU still to play, there are clear chances to change the narrative, yet the team needs timely quality results because several resume-damaging games have already done the most harm.
